Midweek ride results

29 05 2009

A number of riders partcipated in local events during the week.

Rob, Danny and Philip took part in the Crewe 10 mile Time trial on the A500 By-pass.  There were about 25 entrants from first-timers to veteran racers.   The Crewe club made us all very welcome and want to encourage as many people to take part.  It does not matter what type of bike you have (one guy was on his Mountain Bike with off raod tyres!) since this is a race against the clock and a great way to measure improvments in fitness

We arrived at 6:30 signed on (£2) had a  short warm up ride and then we were off. Tail wind first then on the retrun quite a stiff breeze that made the going tough.

Danny on his first ride clocked up 27.30

Rob had cramp half way round an came in at 29m something

Philip finished in 26m 29sec ( A new PB)…

Richard clocked in 25m 59secs

At Chester – Tim and Matti completed the Chester RC 10 mile time trial.

It was Matt’s first time trial and he clocked up a 29m 23sec time which is excellent!

Tim finished in 28mins 14 secs.

However the result of the week comes Mike. He took part in a road race in Lower Whittington and finished 3rd in his age catergory.. He says he will be spending the £10 prize money in the pub over the weekend….

We will look to ride again this week at Crewe setting off from 6 in the village…

Good Luck to Tim Butteril who will be taking part in the Nantwich Triathlon on Sunday.

Time trialling 27th May

Photo Shoot

26 05 2009

Thanks to everyopne for attending our photo shoot on Sunday.

Outside the Old Priest House Audlem

We took the opportunity to have a shot outside our favourite cafe.

We will be sending the other images to the local newspapers for inclusion over the next week or so.

Tim in Mountain Bike action

21 05 2009

Tim took part in what seems to be quite an event last weekend – his report below:

Merida Marathon Report – Crickhowell Brecon Beacons National Park – riding on the Black Mountains

Tim and about 900 other riders on  4 routes 35k, 50k, 70k or 80k

Before the off

There were about 200 of us in the 80k run

Very wet very cold and very injured – big muscle pull at 55k point of 80!!  Had to retire

Weather had been awful but rain stopped just before start – see pics

2 and 1/2 hours in rain re started – visibility 30 m max temp down to about 2 degrees mud and rain were awful

Pretty sure the scenery was beautiful – just couldn’t see it

Brake pads were completely shot within 2 hours metal to metal is not too effective at times – £30 bites the dust(or mud in this case)

But all great fun and I was going really well – not many people were getting past me – however in an unrideable section whilst carrying the bike down hill I lost my footing and something went twang big time in my right thigh – ouch

Managed to “limp” back to HQ via the roads having to ride one legged for about a mile before I could put any load on the bad leg

3hours 45mins to do 55k – conditions were pretty grim

Back at HQCovered in mud and very cold but a good day all the same – luckily Nikki came with me and was able to drive me home

Can’t wait for the next one – Midlands XC Series – Swynnerton Park in June – shorter circuit racing rather than enduro

Photo Shoot on Sunday

21 05 2009

As we have quite a number of members in club kit it would seem the time is right to get ourselves know in the wider area.

Earlier this week Ian spoke to the Nantwich/crewe chronicle and to the evening Sentinal sports editors about getting a photograph and the “story ” behind Audlem CC also to have a regular weekly piece in their papers.

Both were very keen.As far as a photograph is concerned they would prefer us to take one and send it in.

I have spoken to Tim who suggested to have as many riders as possible this Sunday at 9am to take a photo if that was not possible we would use the one that we have already on the website.

For the weekly piece in the paper I will need activities, race results, feedback on the sunday ride by sunday evening of that week.I will let you know of further progress. Ian

This week’s time trials

18 05 2009

This week Crewe Clarion start their time trial season.  It’s the same format at North Shropshire Wheelers but on a different course.  This takes in the A500 Crewe by-pass.  Sign on is at the Horseshore pub  on the Newcastle Road from 6:30 with a couple of quid entry.

There is also the North Shrops Wheelers event from the Midway Cafe – sign on 6:30.

Both events are open to all and based on the range of riders last week that certainly is true.

Ed and Tim W have mentioned that they will do the Crewe ride and Ian is on for the NSW.  If anyone wants to join then please leave a post on the site and if it’s your first time then the guys will assist in ensuring you follow the few rules and don’t miss the start time (like I did last week…)

Ian’s Time Trial success

18 05 2009

Ian Middleton competed in a 10 mile timetrial at Chelford near Macclesfield on saturday in very windy blustery conditions. He the was first over 60 year old and won £12 for being 4th veteran over standard time for his  age .

There were 91 enties and 60+ starters some people being put off with the conditions.

If anyone wants to do an open time trial then please contact Ian for further information…
Well done Ian and we hope your £12 will be spent in the pub….

Junior riders take to the lanes

18 05 2009

The junior ride today saw a 10 mile ride in the quiet country lanes from Audlem taking in Norton-in-Hales and Adderley.

Well done to newcomer Bella Wilson who on her maiden ride accomplished some tough hills and managed the journey with good spirits which she thoroughly enjoyed – The squash and cake tasted even better at the finish!

All welcome next week for another junior outing alongside the normal club run

Time Trial Success

14 05 2009

Four riders took part in the first Time Trial of the year. Starting on the A41 at Prees Heath the 10 mile circuit enable us to clock up some respectable times.

All were made welcome by the host club North Shropshire Wheelers, registration for the event (£1.50) took place in the car park of the Midway Truck Stop. Riders were allocated a number and set off in one minute intervals.

Mike - ready for the off

There was a great mix of riders and bikes from the aerodynamic disc wheel tri bars to the more traditional road bike. It didn’t matter what your choice of bike was, the point is to record your own personal best and then look to improve over the course of the season.

Tim - on the start line

Tim - on the start line

The fastest time on the night was 23mins 11 seconds with the Audlem riders finishing in times of

Philip 27:51

Time trial details for Wednesday

11 05 2009

A time trial is a race against the clock; with no benefit from slipstreaming some say it’s the purest form of cycle racing.

Time trialling is open to everyone with no requirement for special equipment or road racing skills. It’s how many of out the current crop of successful British riders got started.

It’s a great way to measure fitness and track progress over a 10 mile course.

The North Shropshire Wheelers 10mile Time Trial this Wednesday first rider off at 7pm sign on 6.30pm

Signing on and parking is at The Midway Truckstop on the roundabout of A41/A49
There are usually about 12-15 riders taking part and would be good to support the event with some riders from Audlem CC>

Anyone is welcome and Ed and I plan to ride from the village leaving at 6pm for gentle journey to the start. Then take part in the event then return back at approximately 8:30.
