Climbing legs needed this Sunday

6 06 2009

Ed, Rob and Philip will be taking part in the 100 mile Polka Dot Challenge.  It’s a tough one with over 9500 feet of climbing (2900m) and we expect to complete the ride in 7 hours.

The Polkadot – “Spud” Riley Memorial ride starts in Cheshire and travels into Derbyshire then into Staffordshire, back into Derbyshire passing into the beautiful Dovedale area and into the true Peaks region and finally back into Cheshire to finish.

The majority of the climbs are shortish (1 to 2mls) and steep, however the penultimate climb across the High Edge moors to join the top of the famous Cat & Fiddle is 5mls in length.

On the long route there are 16 official climbs (but plenty of unlisted ones) and on the short route there are 8 official climbs. All turns and climbs are signed and there are two feeding/control stations (one on the shorter route)
