Brain Cadence – Cycle Training and Sport Psychology

19 10 2009

brain-763982-11Last Wednesday saw the first of the clubs evening talks take place at the Dusty Miller In Wrenbury
The season was kicked off on fine style by Vickie Barker – a sports psychologist trained at Liverpool John Moores University and one of our members- who gave a very intersting and though provoking presentation on the psychology of cycle training.
39 people, including members from neighbouring Chester RC, Crewe Clarion and North Shropshire Wheelers, were involved in the workshop style sessions with emphasis being placed on planning, preparation and recording rather than just going out and “getting the miles in”.

The evening concluded with snacks provided by the landlord – Mark Summner – himself a member of NSW – who unfortunately couldn’t attend due to a prior engagement.

Another ground breaking initiative from the club and special thanks go to Vickie for her time and effort, the Dusty Miller for hosting the event and Ian Middleton who liaised with all concerned to get the evening organised.
For those that could not get to the session we will post Vickie’s presentation on the website shortly

The next of these meetings will be on Wednesday 11th November – again at the “Dusty” – when there will be a sports nutrition presentation by High 5 – more details to follow
