The Macnillan big Bikeathon is back

Cyclists of all ages will once again take to the streets in and around Market Drayton to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support.

The Advertiser is teaming up for the fourth time with the town’s Macmillan Cancer Support Group to promote the event which will take place on Sunday October 10.

Organisers are hoping to make it a family affair by not only encouraging parents to take part with their children but also to enjoy a hearty big breakfast before and after the event at the Beacon Community Centre.

Support group chairman Sue Harrison said: “I’m really, really pleased that the Big Bikeathon is back as it was for very sad reasons that we couldn’t hold it last year.

“The idea behind the Big Bikeathon is that families can come and join the challenge for any age group.

The Big Bikeathon was launched in 2006 after an idea from Macmillan Cancer Support in Shropshire, and has raised around £6,500 for cancer sufferers and their carers over the three year it has been held.

Cyclists will again have the choice of either a 10-mile or 20-mile route, with full details of entry fees and an entry form to be published in next week’s Advertiser.
