The Broken Spoke Sportive – Chester, August 7th.

22 06 2011
The Broken Spoke Sportive is a cycling challenge which also raises funds for The Catholic High School,Chester.  The event is registered and insured with British Cycling and runs through the stunning scenery of Cheshire, Shropshire and north Wales, and despite the name its all on tarmac.  Participants have 2 routes to choose from: 55 miles and 85 miles both offering a serious challenge and epic scenery.
Following the success of last year’s inaugural event we are well in to planning The Broken Spoke 2011.  Taking on the feedback the feedstops will remain and the direction signs improved.
We will have 4 motorcycle marshals covering the routes providing first aid and mechanical support.  In addition we will have a mini bus out on course.
The event is limited to a total of 400 riders for 2011 across both routes.  Although last year we were able to take ‘on the line entries’ this year may be different due to the closed road section so please get your entries in early, by the 15th July:
The costs:
Long route approx 85 miles – £20 (£25 on the day if we have room) To see the route click here
Short route: 55 miles – £15 (£20 on the day if we have room)  To see the route click here
The short route has everything.  There is plenty of climbing from the 7th  to the 17th mile before a false flat past the Llandegla Mtb Centre to the spectacular Nant y Garth followed by a quick road to Ruthin. This short route includes 3500 ft of climbing.
The long route features two feed stops with the first after an undulating leg to St Martins and then via a more challenging route to Pontfadog, Berwyn and over the Shoe and down the Garth to Ruthin for beans on toast.  It’s at this point both routes meet up and follow the same quiet roads back to Chester starting with a long steady climb and followed by a rolling descent.   There is a small sting in the tail before the route makes its way back to Pulford before turning back to the school for the final 5 miles.
The HQ (The Catholic High School, Chester) is open from 0800hrs and all riders will depart at approx 0900hrs.  The first riders on the longer route should be at St Martins for approx 1010hrs whilst the quicker shorter route riders will be at Ruthin from around 1020hrs.  Its then anticipated that the lead riders on the longer route will start to arrive at Ruthin from approx 1145hrs. The HQ will close once we are sure everyone is accounted for.
The routes may be tweaked slightly subject to road works or grumpy farmers.

This is a local event, it would be great to see our club members taking part. Another opportunity to put Audlem CC on the map!
