Cyclo Sportive in Shropshire by Tom Clowes – Audlem CC

11 07 2011
Tom Clowes of Audlem cc joined Chris Clowes of Congelton cc and Tim Whitten of club Rasio Mona for the day. True to form they were one of the last to set off but soon started making ground up as the road got steeper. They were on for a good time until around 50 miles in when one of the group had a mechanical which set them back around 45 mins. However they finished strongly and had a great day out.
Saturday 2nd July was the cyclo sportive at marshbrook.
It was 85miles around some of the most picturesque roads that Shropshire and North Wales have to offer. Around 140 riders took part and enjoyed some of the best weather of the year. Just 5 miles into the ride came the hardest climb of the day, the notorious Burway Climb. The Burway climbs up the side of Cardingmill Valley precariously perched on a wall of the valley with a precipitous drop to the right. It rises at 20% for 2 miles gaining nearly 300m in height and leaving you high on the top of the Long Mynd. The rest of the route contained a good mix of hills and quiet country roads.
