The Broken Spoke Sportive

14 08 2011

Four of us set out from the catholic school in Chester along with 300 other riders on Sunday 7th August for the second annual Broken Spoke Sportive. The ride departed at 9am heading out of Chester towards Shoklach, from here we headed out towards the Welsh boarders with the first feed stop being in St Martins. There was time for a quick bite to eat and then we pushed on in to the scenic Welsh hills. I think it is fair to say the first climb was horrendous!! This took us up in to Vivod were there was then a very technical decent in to Llangollen. From here it was up and over the Llangollen Horse Shoe and down in to Ruthin.

The next feed station was in Ruthin serving beans on toast which went down a treat. There was a long grind out of Ruthin before heading back in to Chester. Me, Calum, Tony and Paul completed the 85 miles in a respectable time of under 5 hours, this also took the feed stops in to account.

For anyone who likes the sound of this I will be adding this to the club calendar again next year…

Cheers

Dom
